FAQ
- A new legislation on the taxation of savings?
- Why this new legislation? Resources?
- Exchange of information? Taxation at the source?
- Which percentage will be applied as SRT? Quid with the Belgian withholding tax?
If the new regulation applies to you, the SRT will be deducted of the interests credited in your account according to the following percentage:
- 15% till 30 June 2008
- 20% till 30 June 2011
- 35% as from July 1st 2011.
The implementation of the SRT does not affect the Belgian withholding tax, which is different from the SRT. Nevertheless, the two different taxes might have to be applied both. However, this happens only in exceptional cases, as the taxes normally apply to different persons: the SRT applies to non-Belgian residents, where the withholding tax applies to Belgian residents.
The deduction of SRT does not imply that the interest income must no longer be declared in your annual tax declaration.
